Where Does King Charles Live?
Do King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla live at Buckingham Palace? The answer to that question would be, “No, not at the moment”.
Clarence House is actually where they are currently living. It was where King Charles’ beloved grandmother, The Queen Mother, lived. After she died, Prince Charles made it his London home, with his two sons and then with Camilla.
According to House and Garden, Clarence House has been home to King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla for almost 20 years. The pair moved in during 2003 and will continue to call it home until renovation works at Buckingham Palace are completed.
Clarence House, which stands beside St James’s Palace and is walking distance to Buckingham Palace, has been home to many members of the royal family – including the King’s two sons. Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, lived here from 2003 until April 2011, and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, lived here from 2003 until March 2012. Clarence House has also acted as the private office of Prince Charles (now King Charles III) in the past.

To prepare Clarence House for King Charles III in 2003, the building underwent extensive refurbishment and redecoration. The colour schemes in most rooms were adjusted or changed completely, and new fabrics and textiles were introduced, alongside new furniture and artworks from his own collection. These changes came about to reflect the change of occupancy.
The house was built between 1825 and 1827 to a design by John Nash. It was commissioned by the Duke of Clarence, who in 1830 became King William IV of the United Kingdom. The property was heavily damaged in the Second World War by enemy bombing during The Blitz where little remains of the original structure as designed by John Nash. It is Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England.
According to Clarence House’s official website, the property remains very much a home, making it the last remaining great London house to be maintained in the purpose for which it was built.
