When Charles Becomes King
Charles and Camilla on their wedding day in April, 2005
The wife of the King is always known as “Queen Consort,” usually abbreviated to ‘Queen’.
This begs the question as to what Prince Charles will required his country to call his wife, Camilla.
When Prince Charles married then Camilla Parker Bowles (nee Shand), they announced that Camilla would never become Queen as they did not feel that the country would go for it. They had had an adulterous affair which, most claim, broke down the marriage of Charles and the very popular Diana. Nonetheless, there are a lot of murmurings around London town about the fact that Charles may indeed wish his wife, Camilla, to be Queen when he takes the throne after his mother leaves us.
Camilla’s full royal title is a bit of a mouthful at the moment….. Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Chester, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
Is she a Queen in the making?
