img_4455In these dog days of summer, we are all just thinking of ways to stay cool and refreshed.  Apparently, one of the favorite ways, (no wonder), has to do with ice cream.  According to current surveys, 87% of us in the United States, have ice cream in our freezers.  Other than cookies, ice cream is the most popular treat in the U.S.

Here are some fun stats on ice cream.  See how many you get right.  The answers are below.

7. Drum roll please……#1 is New Zealand consuming 7.5 gallons annually per capita, followed by #2 the U.S. at 5.5 gallons, #3 Australia at 4.8 gallons, #4 & #5 are tied between Finland and Sweden at 3.8 gallons each.

  1. This summer a teacher I taught with made ice cream with our classes. The kids were given half and half, vanilla, and sugar in a small zip lock bag. Then that bag was put in a bigger bag with rock salt and ice. They were told to shake it for as long as they could (15-20 minutes). Then the corner of the small bag was cut off and out streamed the best ice cream in the world. Some had the thickness of a milk shake, but others actually had to eat it with a spoon. Delicious and really fun for kids!

      That is a fantastic idea Janie! Never heard that method before but it would be such a fun thing to do with grandchildren 🙂
