Well Said – C. S. Lewis
This is a photo of one of the most beloved authors and Christian thinkers of the 20th century, C.S. Lewis.
Lewis is an intriguing man with a gift for story telling and writing in a most honest and vulnerable way that draws the reader in and makes him (or her) want more.
He is quoted often from his many books on the Christian faith as well as his famously outstanding children’s book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. Though written for children, these books are a wonderful read for those with a love of great storytelling and vivd imagination of any age. We would encourage you to first read ‘The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. We are certain you will be enchanted and hooked by this beautiful story.
Having been an atheist in his younger years, Lewis came to believe in a God who loved him deeply and a strong faith in Christ, that greatly influenced his writing and teaching. It was his dear friend from Oxford University where he taught, J.R.R. Tolkien (author of The lord of the Rings) who helped to bring Lewis to a place of faith in Christ.
Here are just a few of C.S. Lewis’ quotes that you might know and that will give you an understanding of his depth and knowledge of faith:
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
― C.S. Lewis
“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”
― C.S. Lewis
“God can’t give us peace and happiness apart from Himself because there is no such thing.”
― C.S. Lewis
“He died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less.”
― C.S. Lewis
“Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.”
― C.S. Lewis
“True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.”
― C.S. Lewis
“Human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”
—C.S. Lewis
“We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him. He walks everywhere incognito.”
― C.S. Lewis
