Well Done – Patrick Mahomes
Most of the country did the same thing on Sunday…sat in front of their TV sets and cheered on their favorite team. Whether you are from San Francisco or Kansas City, if you are like most people you picked a team to cheer on. For some it came down to a favorite player.
One player stood out. The quarter back for the Kansas City Chiefs barely looks old enough to play the game professionally, much less to be the starting star quarter back, tasked with leading his team to victory. But that is exactly what he did. That fact by itself isn’t a new or different scenario from what we see every year when the Super Bowl rolls around. What was different was the humility and grace as a winner, that this 24 year football hero and star conducted himself with both on and off the field. Something seemed very different about this player who on the surface had many reasons to be proud, and like many of his colleagues, showboating after such a big win. But just the opposite seemed true. He was humble. That led us to dig a bit further to see what it is that drives Patrick Mahomes. This video came out today and shed some light on who this young man is and why he shows such grace in winning:
The big take away for us? He is grateful…he gives thanks…he thanks God regularly. He does what he does, win or lose, with a purpose. He plays the game to glorify God.
When so many celebrities are seeking glory for themselves, and teaching younger fans to go out and get all they can for themselves and bring attention and glory for #1, this impressive young man has a higher purpose, a bigger calling, he is looking to honor and glorify God. He is just the kind of role model we all need to see. For that we say “Well Done Patrick”… WELL DONE!
