Well Done: Love
Major Bill White at 104 years old is the oldest living member of the U.S. Marine Corps and very possibly the recipient of the most Valentines in history.
Major White was a 30 year active duty service member of the Marine Corps and earned a Purple Heart at the Battle of Iwo Jima almost 75 years ago. Since retiring, Major White has taken up scrapbooking as a hobby and a way of cataloguing his many memories and adventures over the years. So when his daughter suggested that maybe it would be a fun idea to put out the word to try and get him 104 Valentines (one for each of his years of life) for this year’s scrap book, he thought it a great idea. He had no idea how much love was about to come his way. This video was filmed about 1 month ago:
Since this video was taken the request for Valentines to be sent to Major White went viral and as of 4 days ago the count of cards and letters and gifts he has received exceeds 300,000!!! This includes a letter from the Marine Corp Commodore, the Secretary of Defense and even a Valentine card from the President himself, Donald Trump.
The call went out to show some love to an older gentleman who served his country and the country…indeed the world…responded. So we say Well Done to everyone who expressed his or her appreciation and love to Major White. This outpouring of love need not stop just because Valentines Day has passed. It is always the right time to show love. If you know an older person or someone who might be bit lonely show some love to them and send a card or note. You may never know how that simple act of kindness may bring joy to someone who feels marginalized, forgotten or alone.
