Well Done – Hershel “Woody” Williams
At 95 years old this veteran, is the only Medal of Honor recipient from WWII still living. He has a mission that keeps him going and speaking some 200+ days a year. “Woody’s” mission is to recognize and honor Gold Star Families. If you are unfamiliar with the term, a Gold Star Family is one whose loved one has been killed in service to his or her country.During the WWI, (the 100th anniversary of the end of that war was celebrated yesterday) mothers of soldiers hung a small banner with a blue star in the window of their home to signify they had a son who was serving in the military. If that loved one died in battle, a gold star was pasted over the blue one to signify the death and sacrifice not only of the soldier who was killed, but of his family as well. Thus the term was coined, Gold Star Families.
Here is the link to a piece that aired yesterday about Woody and the contributions and service he is still giving to his country. We think it is worth watching.
