We Are Back To The Future
In 1989, in the hit film “Back To The Future II”, you may remember that Doc Brown and Marty McFly visited the future in October 21, 2015. Most of us remember this iconic movie series. We cheered for Marty and Doc and enjoyed the “crazy” gizmos they used and found in the future. In two days it will be October 21, 2015 and we will all be “Back To The Future”. How many gadgets did the film predict we would have in 2015 that we actually do have today? Here is short list of things that appeared in the “future” that Doc and Marty visited on October 21, 2015:
1. Flat screen TV – In the film Marty had a flat screen TV mounted over the fireplace when he visited his home in the future. Of course there was no such thing in 1989.
2. A tablet – A version of what we now call a tablet was used in the scene where Marty was asked to sign a petition to save the clock tower
3. Video calling on a cell phone – Marty received video telephone calls from his rival Douglas J. Needles
4. Smart glasses – Today we have Google Glass that allows the wearer to record their surroundings while viewing Internet content at the same time. Marty wore some glasses like these sitting around the family in the future.
5. Hoverboards – A company called ArxPax has designed a hover board that uses magnets to float about one inch above ground. Marty used one of these to make his escape from a sticky situation.
6. Finger print recognition – This was technology that was featured in the movie that no one had in 1989 but that is used commonly now in security for entry to buildings and some smart phones now use to keep personal data secure.
7. Self lacing shoes – Marty had a pair in the the movie, and though we don’t have them on the market yet, it turns out Nike is working on something called Power Laces that will allow us to soon have some shoes like the ones Marty wore.
8. Flying Cars – OK none of us has one of these ….yet….but a company called Terrafugia has already created an aircraft, that is street legal, called Transition. It will take off vertically and for somewhere from $250,000 to $400,000 you too can have one!
If it has been a while since you’ve seen “Back To the Future II”, or the original, “Back To The Future”, there is still time to get your copy from Target or Walmart, or order a digital HD version from Amazon here.
Going back to the past to visit the future which happens to actually be the current present?…just being able to figure that out means you are having a very abundant life 🙂
