Updating An Old Favorite
Who doesn’t love a good Rice Krispie treat from time to time? These are easy to make and children (and adults) of all ages love them. But sometimes, while yummy, they can look a little plain on a plate, or on a table among other desserts. We have an easy way to dress them up! Adding some simple icing glaze drizzled over the top of the pan of treats before they are cut, dresses them up and makes them look like they belong at the grown-up’s table.
Two Chums Rice Krispie Treats
1 box Rice Krispies (approximately 6 cups) or other puffed rice cereal
1 stick butter
2 – 10 oz. bags of mini marshmallows
1 teaspoon vanilla
Glaze
Mix ingredients together until you have a drizzling consistency. You may need to add a bit of half and half or cream to achieve the right consistency.
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 stick butter melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
cream or half and half as needed
We use twice as much butter and marshmallows as the original recipe calls for because…well, that’s how we like them. Melt the butter and marshmallows and stir well together. Add the vanilla and stir again. Stir in the cereal until well mixed. Using your hands, press the mixture into a baking sheet by either buttering your hands or moistening them with water to keep the marshmallows from sticking to them. Press them evenly into the pan. Allow to cool and then drizzle with glaze. Allow that to set up then cut into whatever size squares you prefer and stack them on a plate. Now watch them disappear…it won’t be just the children who grab one of these yummy treats 🙂

Yum! I also like mixing chocolate chips into the original warm mixture so they melt throughout and firm up with the rest of the marshmallow krispie butter blend.
