The Sport of Queens
Saturday will mark the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby, the race always run on the first Saturday in May. Horse racing has long been referred to as ‘the sport of kings”. That may be true, but at this horse race anyway, “hat watching” could be called “the sport of queens”. Whether you are a sports fan or a horse racing fan, if you enjoy a beautiful hat this is one sporting event you don’t want to miss. This Southern tradition has turned “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports” into a true spectacle, and makes it one of the greatest people-watching events in the world! You will see everything from outrageous to gorgeous, from the fantastic to the outlandish, because when it comes to the Derby, there are no rules or limits about choosing your hat!
