The Sixth day of February, 1952
Long live the Queen!
On February 6, 1952, after a long illness, King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland dies in his sleep at the royal estate at Sandringham. Princess Elizabeth, the oldest of the king’s two daughters and next in line to succeed him, was in Kenya at the time of her father’s death but came immediately home and was hailed the Queen as she disembarked the plane.
Queen Elizabeth was very close to her father and so this was hard for her on many fronts. Being a person of great strength and character, she took the baton and has run with it ever since, through thick and thin!
Long live the Queen.
