The Remains Of The Day
What day you might ask? Why, it’s the day of that very special wedding of Harry and Meghan, the now, Duke and Duchess of Sussex of course! We just had to do a recap of all the day’s festivities and fun…both ours and theirs 🙂 What a lovely day for two people very much in love and totally besotted with each other, and the world who had the chance to watch their special day unfold. Here are photos of just some of our favorite moments:
The groom, Harry and his best man, brother William make their way to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Meghan arrives and enters St. Georges Chapel
With her father unable to attend her wedding, Prince Charles escorted Meghan down the aisle to meet her future husband, his son, Harry. How sweet this must have been for them both. Meghan was honoring her about to be father-in-law by asking him to be her escort, and for the future King, who has no daughter of his own to walk down the aisle, we think this must have been a sweet moment indeed.
All smiles at the alter
Harry’s cousins, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Eugenie’s fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, react to the wedding sermon delivered by Reverend Michael Curry. It was a powerful animated message unlike anything this family have ever heard in church!

Meghan’s bouquet was on the smaller side, and included sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia. The stems were held together by a raw silk ribbon. Also as a royal tradition, the bouquet included springs of myrtle. The custom dates back to the wedding of Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Victoria. Myrtle symbolizes hope and love, making it a perfect addition to any bride’s bouquet. But the sweetest touch was some forget-me-nots that Harry picked himself from the gardens at Kensington Palace, the day before the wedding, in remembrance of his mother, Diana, who loved these blossoms.

She may be The Queen but on this day she was also just a Granny who was so thrilled to see her dear grandson so very, very happy

The Cake
Immediately following the ceremony, Prince Harry’s grandmother, the Queen, hosted a reception for the wedding guests. Breaking with a long Royal tradition of fruit cake as the wedding cake, Harry and Meghan chose a lovely Lemon and Elder Flower Cake instead. Guests enjoyed it no doubt as they listened to the songs and entertainment of Elton John who was in attendance.
Meghan and Harry leaving for Frogmore House where Harry’s father, Prince Charles hosted the more intimate evening reception for 200 special guests. Meghan’s beautiful dress was designed by Stella McCartney.
If you look closely you’ll see the special wedding gift that Harry gave his new bride. A beautiful emerald cut aquamarine ring that had belonged to his mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales.
Well Done Harry!
Across “the pond” we were watching adorned in fascinators and taking tea as we watched a real life fairytale unfold as an American commoner became a real life Princess. We very joyfully celebrated with the happy couple with our very own Lemon Elderflower Cake (recipe will be posted later this week)
The whole affair was lovely and very touching as is any occasion of seeing two people very much in love take those vows to commit to love and honor one another all the days of their lives. But a very special moment that caused us to tear up was about the couple and their loyalty to country and Queen as their first public act of devotion and service as man and wife, was to join their family and guests in singing “God Save The Queen”:
“God save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen.”
No one does pageantry and ceremony like the British. We loved every minute, we are still celebrating. As they move into this new chapter in their lives we are wholeheartedly wishing Harry and Meghan love, joy and so much abundant living 🙂
