The Best Story You Never Heard
Today marks the 16th anniversary of one the greatest American tragedies in history. Much has been written and reported about that terrible day 16 years ago, but there is a story that happened that we think maybe few have heard. We had not until now, but thought today especially, it is well worth sharing with our chums. This is a bit longer than most stories we bring you..roughly 12 minutes to be exact…but you will be glad you watched we are sure:
Time has a way of causing our memories to fade. If you weren’t in New York that fateful day you no doubt know where you were and what you were doing when you heard about what was happening in New York City that morning. The facts you don’t forget so easily because they continue to be reported, but the actual emotions and feelings you experienced can be dulled over time.
This video, at least for your Two Chums, is a palpable reminder of the shock, disbelief and helplessness that gripped the country that day. The story of this remarkable Boat Lift reminds us of how we felt, but also gives us, and possibly you, a renewed sense of hope for how we can come together. Despite how different we might be, when we all “pull in the same direction” we can do things we would have never dreamt possible, and find the best of ourselves in the process. In the face of unimaginable circumstances, people came together to help each other one at a time. No one person or agency could have done what these private boat owners and coast guard did when they worked together. We think there is a lesson here we dare not miss.

I had no idea that this happened! I’m glad to finally hear about it. Thank you Jackie and Robin for sending this to us all. It is indeed OUR Dunkirk.

So grateful to have had it to share!
Beautiful video. I had tears in my eyes thinking of the good that was done by average citizens. I knew all of this went on, but had never heard the numbers of 500,000 evacuated in 9 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you…
Sometimes, it seems, we have to dig hard to find the good but it is always there! Glad to have had it to share!
Wow!!! Thank you.
You are so welcome, Lara!
This was VERY MOVING & TOUCHING! I had no idea such a huge boat lift operation took place. I’m so glad you shared this & so glad I’ve taken the time to watch it.
You two ladies are such a blessing to so many people and help uplift our lives, from lemon cakes to Royalty to recoveting dining room chairs.
