Super Super Bowl Sandwich
This Super Bowl Sunday, everyone is looking for a good sandwich to celebrate with. It needs to be easy to prepare, with simple ingredients, and very yummy. We’ve got just the thing for you and your family or guests for your Super Bowl get together. A very juicy easy to prepare and tasty French Dip sandwich.
This sandwich is so simple to prepare and won’t keep you stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is watching the game. The main ingredient here is something you don’t often hear about anymore….shaved beef. If you aren’t familiar, shaved beef is simply paper thin slices of good meat. Typically it is ribeye. But given the price of ribeye steak these days, other cuts can work as well, like sirloin, top round or even flank steak. Your butcher can slice the meat for you or Trader Joe’s generally carries it and is a great place to pick some up. If you decide to slice it yourself, be sure and freeze it for about an hour to make slicing thinly easier. And use your very sharpest non serrated knife to get the meat as thin as possible, almost see through if possible.
Now once you have your shaved beef you’re ready to make a great sandwich everyone will love. Shaved beef cooks in seconds…literally seconds! This is far less a “recipe” and really just more of a method.
If you are cooking for a crowd you will likely need to cook the beef in batches. Figure on about 1/4 pound per person. Start by warming some nice sandwich rolls in a low temp oven. Wrap them in foil and keep them warm until ready to serve.
Next heat some olive oil in a pan until fairly hot and add in the beef. Sprinkle with a bit of Lawry’s Seasoning Salt or just some sea salt and pepper and stir around the pan until done and some of the pieces are crispy. This will only take about 1 minute. Remove from the pan and keep warm in the oven until all the batches are cooked through. Once all the meat is cooked, return it to the pan and stir in some beef bouillon (we like the brand Better Then Bouillon, but any other brand will work). You are just creating some au jus to dip the sandwiches in.
Remove the beef to a warmed serving dish and take up the au jus to use separately. Grate or slice some sharp cheddar cheese or Swiss cheese or the cheese of your choice to go on the warmed rolls. First dip the rolls in the au jus to moisten them and add additional flavor. Next spread the rolls with Coleman’s English mustard or any mustard you choose. Add the cheese and top with the warm juicy beef. You can make up all the sandwiches quickly when you’re ready to eat or let everyone assemble his or her own sandwich adding just what they like. Serve with more au jus on the side to dip each bite of your sandwich in if you like.
No matter which team comes out on top on Sunday, you are guaranteed to be a winner with these delicious and tasty, juicy sandwiches. Happy Super Bowl partying!
