Sprucing Up For The Holidays!
On seeing this DIY post from Tess Panser and Yahoo, your Two Chums were reminded of a time when one of our daughters was getting married and we could not find the right colored shoes to match the bridesmaids outfits.
We searched and we searched but we could not find the right “gold” shoes. Everything we looked at was too gold or too silvery. Finally, in desperation, we decided to have some dyed. So, off to the shoe man we went to have them dyed. Pretty simple, right? Not so! We were there with the gentleman trying to get the right color for hours. We were mixing his paints and concocting all sorts of colors but, alas, we could not come up with the right color. (Yes, we are very precise when it comes to color!)
So, we decided that we would try the spray paint that we had occasionally put on dried flowers….and voila….we found EXACTLY the right color and sprayed away on all those cute little bridesmaids shoes and they were a hit. Exactly the right color and quite fun doing it!
So what does sprucing up your furniture have to do with this? Well, if you have a stain on a well=loved piece of furniture that WILL NOT come out or if you simply want to change the color of the piece, here’s what to do!
MATERIALS NEEDED
Fabric spray paint – color should be darker than the stain on your piece of furniture and you will need enough to do at least 2 coats…. maybe more.
Painters tape (you know, the one that used to be always blue but you can get it in all sorts of colors nowadays)
Simply tape off the parts of the piece of furniture that you DO NOT want to paint.
Then, spray with your fabric paint lightly, one coat. Remember that the color you choose for your paint should be darker than the stain you are trying to cover up.
Let dry.
Spray again with another light coat and let dry.
If you think you need another coat, keep on, letting the piece dry in between each coat.
And, look what you end up with!
A “new” piece of furniture. Such fun, right?
More joy – yes that is exactly what we think!
