It’s Spicy!
This may look like ordinary fried chicken, but it’s not. This is a plate of delicious Nashville Hot Chicken!
If you’ve not heard of it before, or tried it, you are in for a treat. It has a tendency to be spicy, yes, but you can control how spicy you want it and you can also drizzle it with a bit of honey which is really delicious. And the sweet of the honey very much balances out the spice. So go for it and give this a try. Have yourself a little walk on the spicy side 🙂
Nashville Hot Chicken
This recipe was given to us by Robin’s grandson, Jeremy who saw it on Tik Tok and asked to try it, so…. try it we did! (Just a side note…we made ours GF by using gluten free flour, we didn’t use the optional MSG or the Chinese Five Spice)
Season chicken tenders with the Chicken Seasoning at least one hour before cooking. Dredge the chicken in some plain flour, then dip it in the batter. Next coat with the seasoned flour. You are going to fry the chicken twice.
First fry the seasoned chicken strips in hot oil at 300 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from the hot oil and continue frying remaining pieces until all the chicken has had it’s first cooking. Once all the pieces have been fried at 300 degrees for 5 minutes, increase the temperature of the oil to 350 degrees.
Now fry the chicken a second time at 350 degrees for 2 more minutes until it is golden brown and crispy. After all the chicken is fried add 1 cup of the hot cooking oil to the dipping spices and carefully stir together to make the Hot Chicken Oil. This is where you can adjust how “hot” you want the chicken to be. Simply adjust the amount of cayenne pepper you add. If you aren’t sure about the “heat” just start with a scant tablespoon of cayenne. If you are experienced with hot foods and like it that way, go for the recommended 2-3 tablespoons. Dip each piece of chicken in the Hot Chicken Oil and serve immediately. Drizzle with a little honey to really kick it up a notch…or in this case to balance it out.
Bon appetit!
