Savvy Secrets- It’s Better With Butter
If you’ve been around Two Chums for even a little while, you know how much we LOVE butter! So today we have some fun Savvy Secrets to help you use and enjoy butter as much as we do 🙂
1. To soften butter quickly use a large cheese grater and grate the butter. The smaller pieces will soften faster. You can use this technique as well to produce small pieces of butter to be cut into flour for biscuits or pie crust.
2. To measure butter use the markings on the side of the wrapper and pre-slice butter into tablespoons before you begin cooking. You will have just the amount you need available while you are cooking without stopping to measure and cut.
3. Simple browned butter makes a wonderful sauce for vegetables, fish, or even pasta. As the butter melts the milk solids sink to the bottom of the pan and begin to brown. Browned butter is also really delicious in baked goods in place of fresh butter, adding a rich nutty flavor.
4. Compound butter is made by adding fresh herbs to softened butter. After mixing in the herbs roll the butter with the mixed in herbs in waxed paper and refrigerating it until it is solid again. Cut slices and serve on top of grilled meats in place of sauce.
Try this with rosemary on beef, pork or chicken.
Thyme is especially nice on pork and chicken.
Tarragon is great for chicken or beef.
Sage is good on pork and chicken.
Parsley is good on any meat.
You can also add a bit of fresh or roasted garlic to your softened butter with any herb to make a garlic herb butter.
As they say “Everything’s better with butter”! Happy eating 🙂
