Savvy Secrets – Celebrate!
Today is the 1st of July which means the 4th of July is almost here. Today we want to share two unrelated yet important ideas for having a wonderful celebration with family and friends.
The first one is having to do with your BBQ. The fastest way to put a damper on a good time at your BBQ is to run out of propane for your gas BBQ. Sometimes though, it is hard to know how much propane you used at your last gathering or if it is time to refill the tank. So today we have a Savvy Secret to help you manage that problem. Pour a cup of boiling water over the propane tanks from the top down. Then immediately run your hand down the side of the tank. Where it stops feeling hot from the boiling water and begins to feel cold to the touch, is where the propane in the tank begins. Using this handy tip means you can quickly and easily always know how much gas is left in your tank, and if it is time to refill it.
The second idea has to do with fun and deliciousness. You can easily make a beautiful and tasty drink for everyone to enjoy while you are BBQing on that grill that now has plenty of gas to cook your food. This delicious drink is a Watermelon Cooler and can be made non-alcoholic, or with vodka to make it a refreshing cocktail.
The night before your party (or up to two or three days ahead if you prefer) cut up a watermelon and place the pieces in a ziplock bag. Place the bag of watermelon in the freezer to allow the watermelon to be totally frozen. When you are ready to make your drinks remove the bag of frozen watermelon from the freezer and using a mallet or a rolling pin, crush the frozen watermelon as you would ice.
Place some of the frozen watermelon in the glasses you want to serve your drinks in, and add a squeeze of fresh lime juice to each glass. If you like a spicy drink sprinkle a bit of Tajin over the watermelon as well.
Next, add a couple tablespoons of simple syrup or agave syrup and then pour in some sparking water. Add a splash of vodka if you want to make this a cocktail and garnish with fresh mint and a wedge of lime. Don’t forget the straw. Simple, beautiful, refreshing and delicious. A great addition to your 4th of July party or any BBQ you have this summer.
Happy celebrating everyone!
