Savvy Secrets – Baking Soda Secrets!

Well, we all know the value of keeping a box of baking soda in our refrigerators to take care of horrid smells but ….. here are lots more uses for that same baking soda!

1.     If hard water in your home causes spots and stains on glassware that has been washed in the dishwasher, add a spoonful of baking soda to your next load.  No more spots!

2.     Dirty grout in your bathroom or kitchen?  Make a paste of three parts baking soda and one part water and use an old toothbrush to brush the dirt away.

3.     About once every couple of months, soak your hair brushes and combs in a mixture of one quart hot water and two tablespoons baking soda for about one hour.  Rinse off and let dry and you will have spanking clean hair tools!

4.     Ready to travel and your suitcase smalls a bit musty?  Pour a cup of baking soda in it, close and shake.  Leave overnight.  In the morning, vacuum up the baking soda and your suitcase will smell fresh again.

5.     Oh golly!  Some crayon, pencil or ink has been put on one of your painted surfaces!  Don’t be concerned.  Just sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge, rub clean and rinse off.

6.     Don’t just throw away the baking soda that has been in your refrigerator doing its work.  Put it down the garbage disposal with running water.  It will keep it fresh.

7.     Combine a quarter of a cup of baking soda with one quart of water and run it through your coffee maker as if you were making a cup of coffee.  The baking soda will clean the inside of the coffee maker.  After you have done the baking soda cycle, do a plain water cycle.  Ready for the coffee cycle now!

8.     Keep a package of baking soda handy to throw on a small stove fire.  The soda will prevent oxygen from feeding the flames.

9.     If your carpet is smelling not too fresh, combine a mixture of equal parts baking soda and cornstarch and sprinkle it onto the carpet.  Sprinkle it on at night and in the morning, vacuum it up.

10.    Use baking soda to get rid of oil spots in your garage or on your driveway.  Sprinkle baking soda on stains and then scrub with a wet brush and hot water.  Baking soda breaks apart oil particles.  Use a little elbow grease and the spots will be gone!

We always love to share these Savvy Secrets and add to the abundance in your lives!
