Savvy Secrets

It’s that time again.  As you know from time to time we want to share with you some helpful and interesting ideas that will make life simpler, easier, tidier, and maybe just more beautiful.  Check out these savvy secrets.  There are bound to be some here you will appreciate.

Need a candle holder for a cake or cupcake?  Use a Life Saver candy.  It holds the candle in place and even adds a bit of sweetness while it is doing it 🙂

When you have a wide mouthed vase or container and want your flowers to stay neatly arranged, use a clear rubber band to keep the stems together.  Put the clear hair band in place, trim the stems to the length you want and voila ….you have a beautiful arrangement.  If your flowers are a kind that stands very upright and the band shows on the stems, you can always add a piece of ribbon around the band tied in a neat knot to cover it.

To keep tweezers always at the ready, attach a magnet to the inside of your medicine cabinet and you will always know where your tweezers are without having to move other items around to find them.

When potting a plant in a deep pot you can add a plastic bag in the bottom of the pot so as to not use as much potting soil.  Just be sure you don’t completely block the drainage hole by packing the plastic bag too tightly.

To clean a soiled or stained cutting board slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice on the board.  Use the cut side of the lemon to scrub the cutting board and then allow the board to sit for 20 minutes before rinsing.  It will look as good as new.

When you are storing your good silver, to keep the moisture at bay and so slow down the tarnishing process, add a couple of pieces of chalk  wrapped in cheesecloth to your silver.

To keep extension cords tidy and separated, use toilet tissue rolls so that you can avoid the tangled mess of cords, and quickly grab what you need from a cupboard or drawer.

To make your own magnetic board, simply cover a flat cookie sheet in lightweight fabric that coordinates with your room decor and drill two holes at the top.  Run a grosgrain ribbon through the holes from the back side of the board, leaving enough length of ribbon to be used as a hanger and tie a neat knot in the front of the board. Now you are ready to use your favorite magnets to hold photos and invitations and receipts in place until you need them.

To make fun and inexpensive place cards for your guests, try limes.  Using address labels, write each persons name on the right and left sides of a label and then fold the label around a toothpick so that it sticks to itself and holds the name in place.  Now put the toothpick in the lime and place a lime on each guests plate…voila…you are ready for your party!

Everyone loves a lollipop!  Why not use one in each glass as a drink stirrer at your next party.  Choose a lollipop in a color that coordinates with your party colors and you have both a fun, and tasty, addition to your drinks.

We would love to hear from you if you have any great ideas to share.  Enjoy these savvy secrets and feel free to share them on your Pinterest boards and Facebook pages too.  Until tomorrow, go spreading love, joy and abundant living!
