Savvy Secrets

Synonymous with Two Chums is love, joy, and abundant living.  We have found that there is nothing stopping anyone, at any time, from feeling love, joy and enjoying an abundant life.   We can feel love by loving and have joy by being joyous.   An abundant life comes with having an abundant thought.

From time to time, we are going to share some “Savvy Secrets” ~ things that we have learned along the way and which help us to have love, joy and abundant lives.  Here are a few to get started:

  1. Get a shadow box frame  and each month, display in this frame a piece of your child’s works of art.  Then take photos of the art work and make the photos into a book at the end of the year.   Two sites we really like for the books are Snapfish.com and Shutterfly.com but Costco also does it.
  2. Before you simply toss them out, use your used fabric softener dryer sheets to clean your TV and monitor screens.
  3. Cannot tell if your eggs are fresh?  A fresh egg will not float so just pop the egg in water to see if it is fresh.  If you have hard boiled some eggs and placed them in the refrigerator and cannot tell which ones are hard boiled, gently place an egg on its side and spin it.  If it spins freely, it is hard boiled.  If it wobbles and stops spinning, it is not hard boiled.
  4. Make the week night meals feel very special by using cloth napkins, by having a place card with each person’s name at their place, and, by dining by candlelight.
  5. After handling garlic, rub your hands on a stainless steel pan or lid to remove the odor of garlic from your fingers.
  6. People have dropped by unexpectedly and you want to put something nice out to nibble on?  As long as you have a few different cheeses in your refrigerator, tear strips of paper in oval shapes and hand write the name of each cheese.  Stick a toothpick through the paper and then into the cheese.  Voilà – a most festive cheese plate to welcome your guests!

  1. To start good conversation and learn more about your child’s day, play “pits and peaks” at the dinner table.  Ask your child to tell you what the “pit” of their day was and then what was their “peak”.  Makes for great communication!
  2. Use a few drops of vegetable oil to help remove sticky price tags from glass, metal, wood or plastic.
  3. Start a Journal of your child’s travels.  What fun for them to know where and when they traveled.  We wish we had done this for our own children and that our parents had done it for us!
  4. Instead of lime or lemon, try adding a few sprigs of mint or slices of cucumber to a pitcher of water for a refreshing drink.

Until the next time, we send you love, joy and wishes for abundant living!

  2. Love the post! Although, I think it goes like this: A hard boiled egg spins good and fast and a raw egg spins a wee wobbly.

Great tips 🙂 Didn’t know that about eggs. . . and as our guys are still traveling extensively – it’s not too late for me to start the log/journal – also always good to remember the oil tip and love the idea of cucumber or mint. . . as always. . . THANK YOU!

Love the “Peaks” and “Pits” idea!

  5. I posted that comment before you had a chance to correct it when it was posted by accident last week. ;D

Anyway, some great tips. Love the shadowbox idea for those with children, what a fun way to enjoy their little pieces of art and treasures they find and then put into a book. Could be a good gift idea for a grandparent, too. The pits and peaks is a good idea, too.

Dining by candlelight and using cloth napkins feels good. I enjoy setting a table and making it special, something I don’t do often enough for just the two of us and tend to do it only when we have company. Thanks for the reminder. xo

You two seem like you’d be great fun to hang out with. I’m glad you’re having fun with your blog and I’m glad you’ve created it for us to enjoy.

Oh my glory! Now I know how to spell VOILA! The things I learn every day.

You ladies are better than “Heloise’s Helpful Hints”!! And a lot cuter too!! The thing I have discovered is that one can have just as much fun having countless joyous “peaks” without having children. Some of your hints are for parents with small children. How about giving us a “Daily Lift” with ideas for single people. I have some ideas: eat out, play lots of golf, travel the world, go to lots of concerts, plays & museums, get involved in your service clubs & churches. Now that’s a joyous life!
