Royal Good News

It can seem as though everywhere we turn there is bad or difficult news both in our own families and communities, and across the world. With news of wars, earthquakes, fires, shootings, and tragic accidents or illness, we all can use some good news.

Friday the 13th is synonymous with ugliness or tragedy….all around bad news and fear of it. We would like to break that thinking and share something good today. Some months ago when the news was reported that Prince Williams wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, had been diagnosed very unexpectedly with cancer, many around the world felt the heaviness of the news as if she was a good friend of ours receiving that dreaded news. Indeed to many she is a friend, albeit one they have never met but who is liked and admired by nearly everyone. The shock was felt in every corner of the world. Catherine is young and beautiful and lively and warm and kind and cleary adores her husband and children, so how could this happen? And for some came the chilling thought that if this could happen to her, a young woman, wife, mother and future Queen of England, it most certainly could happen to anyone. And that thought was very troubling to so many.

For months after the video was released of her announcing the diagnosis she had received, and the explanation that she would be undergoing treatment in the months ahead, people were stunned and grieved. And we wondered when she might be well enough to return to public life and duty. When her warm smile and friendly demeanor might grace the pages of magazines again. When we might see articles and photographs of the vibrant Catherine we had all come to respect and admire on line. In some form or fashion people in the UK, and well beyond, held our breath not able to fathom any more bad news and hoping to hear something positive…hoping for good news. Now it has happened…we have

GOOD NEWS!

This is good news….very good news indeed. And we all need to hear some good news and have our minds and hearts lifted. As we celebrate such relief and happiness for her and her family, what an amazing thing it is that someone else’s good news can lift our spirits as we celebrate with them….even if we’ve never met and likely never will. The Bible reminds us in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things”.
Let’s all be bearers of Good News and encourage those around us and ourselves.
