Pigs With New Blankets
Most of us have had some version of Pigs in a Blanket along the way. It’s one of these foods you always seem to enjoy but frequently forget about when you are looking to make a snack for your children, or a simple and casual hors d’ouvres. We’ve got a really simple version of this classic for you today. Most recipes for Pigs in a Blanket involve some kind of hot dog and some crescent rolls. Some even include cheese. The one we want to share today came out of was one of those “I’ve got some cocktail hot dogs, but no crescent roll dough and the kids need a snack. So now what?” moments.
The result was simple. Just use slices of white bread well buttered and cut into strips. Each slice of bread should yield about 3 strips. Wrap the bread around the mini hot dogs (or regular hot dog cut into 3 pieces) with the buttered side of the bread on the outside. Secure with a toothpick. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 400 degree oven for about 8-10 minutes until the bread is golden brown. Serve them with small bowls of mustard, ketchup, and barbecue sauce on the side for dipping.
Your kids ….no matter how young or old, will gobble them up and probably ask you for more…so be ready 🙂
