Over A Cup of Tea – Happy Anniversary William and Catherine
Oh goodness, what an absolutely fabulous wedding, from start to finish. In fact, from the time that we heard that Prince William had asked his college sweetheart (and commoner), Catherine Middleton, for her hand in marriage, we were glued to the television and newspapers to follow along. Their courtship had been a long one – a long one with a small split happening a few years into it.
William had grown up as the eldest son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales and had gone through emotional turmoil when his parents had so publicly divorced. The whole world watched as they called each other names, cheated on one another and finally ended up in Court making their split official. William, quite obviously, did not want to repeat this himself. He wanted to be sure that Catherine could handle the pressure of “the Firm” as their family is sometimes called.
So, on that glorious day in South Africa when he asked Catherine to marry him, the world smiled and looked forward to the wonderful celebration of their wedding.
Speculation was high – who would design Catherine’s dress? Where would the wedding be held? Who would be her bridesmaids? Would she get along with the Queen? Just all sorts of questions arose and now, have been answered, one by one.
Your Two Chums were so excited about the wedding that we decided that we should watch the wedding “real time” here in California. So, Robin, her three daughters, two grand daughters and grandson, and I sat up and watched.
William and Catherine – A Real Fairy Tale from Two Chums on Vimeo.
As we have noted, we watched for hours – perhaps five or six. Robin made a wedding cake and embellished it with “K and W” for Kate and Wills as they are affectionately known, and we all sat and savored every moment of the broadcast. The video, The Royal Wedding is a magnificent “see”, if you have forgotten some of the fabulous details of that day.
It was wonderful to see the response in London. People lined the streets, five or six deep, to see the procession as it made its way to Westminster Abbey, and, then after the wedding ceremony by carriage to Buckingham Palace, and oh, how grand it was! Catherine Middleton arrived at the church, by way of a car, as a commoner and left the church, in a crested carriage, as a Royal! No one was disappointed, I feel sure.
Catherine’s dress could not have been more perfect. Designed by Sarah Burton, it was everything – traditional, beautiful, fashionable, becoming, befitting of a Princess-to-be! And she wore it so well! Breathtaking it all was ~ quite breathtaking!
Catherine’s mother, Carol Middleton, looked amazing, as did the Queen in a pale lemon. Quite honestly, we both felt that the Queen looked the best that we had ever seen her. She was obviously quite happy with the union and it showed.
We loved looking at all of the hats. The British are known for their wonderful chapeaux and we were not disappointed on this occasion! They were a vision to be seen, for the most part. A few of the hats let the bearers down but the glorious ones far outnumbered them. We only wish that hats were worn more here in California. Your Two Chums take every possible opportunity to don a hat!
Catherine has had a wonderful first year as part of Britain’s Royal Family. She has appeared at countless dinners, luncheons, etc., both in Britain and abroad, and handles herself quite beautifully. A closeness has developed, it seems, between Catherine, or Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, as she is now known, and Queen Elizabeth. Certainly, Catherine has been totally accepted by the other Royals…..how grateful William can be!
Oh golly, this day certainly added to feeling love, wallowing in joy and witnessing abundant living!

Dear Jackie, oh thou Royal friend!
I wholeheartedly concur with your wedding observations from a year ago. It was a glorious day and your precious Queen did look so splendid that day (and every day) – I just adore her and so want her to continue on as The Queen for many, many years.
Thank you for this ROYAL WEEK of Royal news. It’s really been fun and I’ve loved the many history lessons. Thank goodness we have all the great movies about The Royal Family. And thank goodness that Edward VIII gave up the Throne for Wallis, or we wouldn’t have our loved Queen Elizabeth and England might be speaking German, had Edward continued on. Thank God for the Queen’s dad, George VI for keeping things right.
Churchill is next, ladies!

Jackie and Robin: I just watched your blog and watched the video. Since i started watching your videos I feel I now have a new friend named Robin. Of course it is always great to hear your voice Jackie. This morning watching you both discuss The Wedding it was like I was with you. I only regret I did not bring my tea to the computer. I also loved the little vignettes on the other royal couples. These blogs are a little bright spot to my morning and have become a ritual. Love to you both Sheilia
Oh Sheilia what a lovely thing to say….we love having you visit us even if it is only through cyberspace and i am so happy to be your new friend and Chum 🙂
Oh golly, Sheilia, we are so glad that you are enjoying them and, of course, you have a friend in Robin! Much love to you, J
