Our Pearls
For those of you who know your Two Chums well, you know that we both love our pearls. They are very special to us and we wear them often.
On another note, we are always telling you how much good vinegar can do in the world of cleaning! BUT (and there is a big but there), we want you to read this to know what you are doing when it comes to pearls and vinegar!
There is a legendary story about Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, who bet her lover Mark Antony that she could spend a huge sum of the era’s currency in a single meal. Her tactic? Dropping a priceless pearl earring into a cocktail of vinegar and drinking it down after the pearl dissolved.
Whether this story is true or not remains up for debate, but scientists were able to prove that it is possible to dissolve a pearl in vinegar. All it takes is white vinegar, like you’d buy at the grocery store, and 24 to 36 hours to dissolve a one-gram pearl into a jelly-like substance.
SO. DO NOT put your pearls anywhere near vinegar!
