On This Day …
On this day back in 1783,
the American Revolution officially came to an end when representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Spain and France signed the Treaty of Paris. The signing signified America’s status as a free nation, as Britain formally recognized the independence of its 13 former American colonies, and the boundaries of the new republic were agreed upon: Florida north to the Great Lakes and the Atlantic coast west to the Mississippi River.
It seems very fitting that this day should fall on the day when we are celebrating Labor Day. The Labor Day holiday constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Yes, do let’s celebrate those qualities wherever we see them, be it in a strong child, be it in a prosperous family or be it in the well-being of a person special to you.
All of these acknowledgments, small or large, speak to the larger picture – that of the country. After all, WE are the people who make up the country. Every good thought that we have helps to make the country better.
Onward we go, with JOY!
Happy Labor Day!
