But today we have a twist on the original recipe that takes very little extra effort but makes an old favorite new again. We think you’ll really enjoy these, no matter how old you are 🙂
Happy Halloween everyone!
New Rice Krispie Treats
1 box rice cereal (roughly 6 cups) – we use the market’s generic rice cereal. The name brand is Rice Krispies
1 box chocolate rice cereal (roughly 6 cups) – again we use the generic brand but the name brand would be Cocoa Krispies
1 stick butter
2 – 10oz. bags mini marshmallows
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted in 1/3 cup heated heavy cream
6 oz. white chocolate chips, melted in 1/3 cup heated heavy cream
Melt butter in a large pot. Add marshmallows and stir until marshmallows are also melted. Stir in the vanilla and then both boxes of cereal and stir until the cereal is thoroughly coated in the butter marshmallow mixture. Pour out on a large buttered baking sheet and press with the palm of your hand until the rice mixture is evenly distributed. (You may want to butter your hands to keep the mixture from sticking to them). Allow the rice cereal to cool.
While it is cooling, heat 1/3 cup of heavy cream until tiny bubbles form on the edge of the pan. Turn off heat and immediately add chocolate chips. Stir continuously until the chocolate is melted. Using a rubber spatula or a small spoon, drizzle the chocolate with a back and forth motion over the rice cereal. Repeat this process with the white chocolate.
Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to allow the chocolate to firm up. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Another benefit of this dessert is that it is gluten-free 🙂

Oh, my glory, Robin! This looks SO DELICIIUS! I’d like to come treating to your house tonight. But you’re just a little too far to drive. But I sure they are yummy bars.
Happy Halloween to you all!
GO DODGERS!!!
That looks so good. I think I would use butterscotch chips instead of (or besides) while chocolate. I agree about the Dodgers. It’s a must win!
