New Tricks For Old Limes
Sometimes we buy a bag of limes and we can’t use them all them before they start to get old. By old we mean slightly discolored and skin that gets a bit hard. It’s always a disappointment to have to throw food away. Now, you won’t have to with these tricks.
We found these great ideas from suburbia-unwrapped.com:
- Garbage Disposal Refresher: Left over limes work really well to freshen up your garbage disposal. Slice them up, run hot water and turn on your garbage disposal and in a minute you will have a clean and fresh smelling disposal.
- Clean the Microwave: Add sliced limes to 1 cup of water in a glass measuring cup and place in the microwave on high for 3-4 minutes. Remove and wipe down the inside of the microwave with a damp cloth. Now its fresh and clean naturally without using chemical clean solutions where you put your food.
- Ant repellent: Ants hate all citrus. Puree some lime peels in a cup of water and pour the solution in your garden, on your patio, and around the foundation of your house to keep your home ant free.
- Clean your cutting board: Cut a lime in half and dip in salt then use that to scrub your wooden cutting board. This is a great way to remove the smell of fish and garlic from your wooden cutting board.
- Turn your limes into frozen cubes: Cut your old limes into quarters and freeze them on a cookie sheet then store in a freezer bag. Pop a lime quarter into your water to keep your water cooler and naturally add flavor to your water.
You can actually use any type of circus fruit for any of these ideas. Now you have some great uses for old fruit you might otherwise just be tossing in the garbage. And the win/win is you aren’t wasting food and your home will be better for it. Give these a try!
