May Flowers
“April showers bring May flowers. But what do May flowers bring?” If you are in elementary school your answer to this riddle is supposed to be “Pilgrims!” But we would say that May flowers, like those pictured here, will bring nothing short of delight and joy to the one who receives them 🙂 This little bouquet, or tussle mussy as they are sometimes called, is ever so simple to make and is quick, easy and the perfect little floral remembrance for someone special to you on the first day in May.
A Hankie -even after the flowers are gone the hankie will be a little treasure for the recipient
Flowers and greenery – most types of garden flowers such as roses, geraniums, sweet william, lavender, plumbago, dusty miller, daisies, and mint all work well
2 small rubber bands (the tiny clear kind you use for your hair are perfect)
Clip a few simple flowers from your garden. And here’s a bonus, actually the shorter stemmed flowers that don’t always work very well in other arrangements are perfect for this one. Trim all the stems to about 2-3 inches long.
Wrap a rubber band around the stems to hold them together.
Next place the stems in the center of the hankie and pull it up around the stems to create a sort of “collar” with the hankie around the blossoms.
Use the second rubber band to secure the hankie.
Tie the ribbon into a bow around the rubber band. For a nice finishing touch make some simple knots in the ends of the ribbon.
Voila! Your May flowers are ready to surprise and delight someone you love. And that will surely bring you joy!
P.S. This little bouquet is also perfect for a Mother’s Day remembrance as well 🙂
