Homemade Pita Chips
In the world of crackers and chips, the up and coming favorite seems to be the pita chip.Everyone we know loves these pita chips. They are crunchy, well seasoned, baked not fried, and the perfect size and shape to hold any dip. And unlike the ones you can buy in the store for about $5 for an average sized bag, one package of pita bread at under $2 will make about twice as many chips as any package you could pick up. Try these soon. We are sure you’ll be glad you did 🙂
P.S. Stay tuned tomorrow we will give you something to dip these delicious chips into.
Homemade Pita Chips
1 package pita bread
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon cumin
light sprinkling of cayenne pepper (optional)
Cut the pita bread into large squares. Place in a deep bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Using your hands, toss until all the pieces of bread are coated with oil. Sprinkle salt, pepper, thyme, cumin, and cayenne (if using) and toss again to spread spices and coat pieces of bread. Spread bread on baking sheets making sure they are only in a single layer so that they have the chance to crisp while cooking. Bake in a 375 degree oven until they are lightly browned and beginning to crisp about 12-15 minutes. Remove from the oven. Chips will continue to crisp up as they cool. Eat as is, or enjoy with your favorite dip 🙂
