Good Nights

made bed
You spend one third of your life there…why not make it as nice as you can? When you think about how much time you spend in bed it just makes sense that you would make your bed as comfortable and inviting as you possibly can.  So here are a few ideas that you might want to try.

1. The most obvious thing you can do is to buy the best quality sheets you can afford.  Feel the fabric and be sure the sheets are quite to your liking.  Generally the higher the thread count, the better the sheets and naturally the more costly.  But thread counts can fool you.  A sateen finish on a modest thread count sheet can sometimes feel softer and actually more comfortable than a very high count sheet with a different finish.  This guide to buying sheets published by eBay may be of help in making your choice.

2.. Use lavender essential oil and add it to a spray bottle of water and mist your pillow cases and sheets when you make up your bed for the night.  Lavender has long been recognized as a fragrance that has calming properties.  The scent of fresh lavender will help you fall asleep and stay comfortably asleep.  Anyone who has ever had a restless or sleepless night knows the value of anything that can help you naturally sleep better.

3. Iron your sheets and pillow cases.  We can see you rolling your eyes at this one, but honestly, if you have never done it you need to try and sleep on freshly ironed bed linen.  You get the experience you get when you sleep at a very nice hotel.  There is nothing like it.  It takes a few minutes to iron the top sheet and pillowcases ( about 15 to be accurate having just done it) but the reward is so worth it, you will be very happy you did.  It is like sleeping in a luxurious hotel bed every night.crisp sheets

We make sure our living rooms and dining rooms and kitchens are comfortable and enjoyable but all too often we neglect our bedrooms and specifically our beds.  Give yourself a gift and buy yourself some good sheets and make your bed as nice as you can.  You are worth it!

Remember, having good nights will make life during the day just so much more abundant 🙂

And, of course, 10 goose down pillows to snuggle up with. It makes for the perfect non-snoring companion!!

Finding just the right sheets can be a challenge. I remember soft smooth sheets growing up that seemed weightless. Mom taught me at a young age how to iron the pillowcases after they came out of the refrigerator??? Yes. Any brand suggestions? You have encouraged me to give some attention to our bedroom. Thanks,

Refrigerator?! Golly – we have never heard of that before. We would love you to share with us what you do.

As far as “brands” go, we cannot tell you one particular brand. The important thing is that the material is 100% cotton and at least 400 thread count. The best way to buy them is to feel them. Costco often has great choices.

Actually Janna now that you mention it I am quite familiar with the “refrigerator method”. My mother would sprinkle the sheets or pillowcases with water until they were dampish and then roll them up and put them in the refrigerator so that they were cold when she pulled them out to iron them and the dampness permeated the whole pillowcase. That somehow made the ironing go better. The pillowcases were crisper and smoother. Funny how something comes back to you all these years later 🙂
