Floored – Some Creative Ideas

The other day, in a fun new little French cafe in L.A., we were waiting for our food to arrive and taking in the creative decor when we snapped the photo seen here of the great stenciled cement floor. It got us to thinking about some other creative ideas for decorating.It’s the time of year when many of us are glancing around our own homes or offices and wondering what we might do to spruce things up.  Often we are focused on the furniture, or the walls and what we might hang on them, or we think about changing our look by changing our window coverings.  All these are good ideas and there are any number of simple ways to make improvements by focusing on one of the these areas.  But rarely do we think about what is right under our noses, or maybe more accurately under our feet, the floor.  Here are some great and very creative ideas we found for changing the whole look of a room by simply changing the floor.

A Screen-Printed Bathroom Floor.
It’s not tile, and it’s not linoleum. In this DIY project, screen printed art paper is used to cover a paint-splattered plywood floor.

Black and White Striped Linoleum Floor
These are linoleum floor panels that were purchased in bulk and then cut
and laid in a striped pattern right on top of the existing linoleum.

Repaint and Stencil An Ugly Vinyl Tile Floor

Painted and Patterned Wood Floors.
The cheeriest room you ever did see, thanks to yellow floors and large scale flower patterns.

If you’re not into flowers and swirls, try something a bit more mod and geometric, like this!

While all of these floors will take a little time, with some effort and determination, and of course a little patience, you can make a big statement with just a small amount of money.  One of these floors might just be the design innovation you’ve been looking for to achieve that change you’ve been looking to make.

Some creativity, maybe some paint, and of course doing it all with love and joy will make your home more beautiful and your life so much more abundant!
