Fix It Or Trash It?

IMG_1148Do you have something broken you should throw away but can’t quite bring yourself to do it?  That was my story with this broken teacup.  Normally something broken in this many pieces would wind up in the trash.  Especially because it is something that needs to be used, not just sit on a shelf and look pretty.  But this particular teacup is sentimental to me because it was made by Ridgway china, which is my mother’s family surname, and I bought it over 40 years ago on my first trip to England.

The other day I saw a commercial for a new repair product.  It is an “As Seen On TV” item.  It isn’t a glue, or an adhesive of any kind I have ever seen.  It is a liquid, though NOT sticky, that is set with a laser in about 3-5 seconds.  Yes, I did say seconds.  It is called Lazer Bond.

The benefit of this product is that it repairs almost anything in seconds and there is no sticky substance to get all over your fingers like you get with a super glue product.  The additional benefit is that until you put the light on the liquid it doesn’t adhere so you can’t make a mistake putting pieces together and then have them stuck slightly off.  If you’ve ever glued something with super glue, you know what I’m talking about.  You simply apply a small amount of the bond liquid from the needle nose pen tip, then fit your pieces together and when you have it how you want it, apply the laser light for 3-5 seconds and …

…. Voila!  You have a previously broken item that is now fully usable again and though the repair is slightly visible, it is completely flush and smooth, you can’t feel it at all.

Within seconds of making the repair, I poured a hot cup of tea with no leak or problem.  The tea did stain the repair slightly but having my sentimental teacup still functional is worth it to me.  It doesn’t just hold a sweet cup of tea, for me, it holds some very sweet memories.

If you have something special that needs a repair head to Bed Bath and Beyond and pick this Lazer Bond up.  For just $9.99, your special item will be back in use in no time.  Fixing things you love so they are still usable…that can only bring an abundance of joy 🙂

I thinks that’s the same technology they use for sticking kids’ braces onto their teeth! Sounds like a great product – I love browsing the “As Seen on TV” aisle at the drug store.
