In 1953, after miscalculating how many turkeys they would sell at Thanksgiving, Swanson decided to use their leftover 260 tons of frozen turkey to create the TV dinner. At just 98 cents, purchasers could get frozen turkey with cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes, and peas.
