Cutting The Cake Gets Better!
Certainly, the traditional way to cut a round cake is to vaguely find the center and cut triangles from that point.
BUT, we recently heard about this wonderful way.
YouTube/Numberphile
- Cut your cake into quarters.
- At your center line, cut another line along that center line, making rectangle pieces ready to eat.
- Once you have finished serving all of your guests, push the two sides together so that no air gets to the cake and….
- ….tomorrow, you will have a still-fresh cake! Yum! More joy!

A most splendid idea, Robin. They often serve cake in rectangle slices like that at weddings and other events with many guests.
Great idea. I also saw another way to keep a standard cut cake from drying out. Place pieces of bread against the cut edges.
Super idea, Lara! Thanks!
