Charlotte Goes To School

Just like her big brother George, Charlotte had her first day at school yesterday. It is the same London school that George also attends, Thomas Battersea Day School.

They all arrived, making the first day of school a family affair. When George started school at Thomas Battersea, Catherine was unfortunately not there to take him because she was pregnant with Prince Louis and was home with terrible morning sickness. So yesterday she was all smiles to be there to see her children begin the new school year and see Charlotte begin her first day of school all dressed in her uniform matching George and adorned with her sweet smile.

Many children, both in Britain and the U.S., started the Fall semester at school in the last couple of weeks. And while many children posed for a photo their mothers or teachers took of them on the first day, it is fair to say that none of the others had a stream of photographers watching their every move and vying for the best photo. Charlotte, unlike her older brother, is not shy in front of the cameras or with photographers clicking away with their cameras pointed in her direction. Not unlike she usually does, on this occasion, she gave the photographers a smile and a wave.

And she happily greeted her teacher who was waiting to welcome her new student to school. She is such a happy, confident, outgoing little girl.

Her proud parents looked on and like so many other parents, they were all smiles. Even if you are a princess and a future king, starting school is a big occasion. But at least in this environment, at Thomas Battersea, HRH Princess Charlotte of Cambridge will not be called by the title Princess. here she will just be known by her teacher and new friends as Charlotte Cambridge.

Her famous and very beloved late grandmother, Diana Princess of Wales, wanted her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry to lead as normal a life as was possible and exposed them every chance she had to normal everyday experiences. Including taking them to school herself on their first day of school.

Prince William, and wife Catherine, have chosen to do the same with their children.

If these photos of the first day of school are any indication of how things are going, it is clear Diana would be one very proud grandmother indeed!
