Building The Perfect BLTA
What is a BLTA you ask? Good question…iit is a BLT done one better. It’s a bacon, lettuce, tomato AND avocado sandwich. And today we will show you a simple way to make this perfectly delightful sandwich even better! The only problem with a classic BLT, or in this case BLTA, is that once you begin to bite down all too often the bacon has been known to slide around and even fall out of the sandwich while you are eating it. This, we will admit, is a very first world problem. But a problem that can be very simply remedied and its rather fun to create the remedy.
For each sandwich you will need 3 pieces of bacon cut in half, unless your bread is very large, in which case you might opt for 4 pieces. What makes this sandwich different, and keeps the bacon in place is that you “weave” the bacon together in a basket pattern before you cook it and thus it is more like a piece of solid meat that holds together than small strips of meat that can slide around on the bread. You can see here how we went about it:
Place the woven pieces of bacon on a baking sheet and cook in 450 degree oven for about 15-20 depending on how well done you prefer your bacon to be and flip it over once about 10 minutes into cooking.
Toast the bread and spread both sides with ample mayo, then add diced avocado and smash the avocado slightly into the bread. Sprinkle lightly with salt. On one side of the bread add some slices of tomato and again sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. On the other side of the bread add your bacon weave. Place the sandwich together and slice in half. Add chips or fruit and now you are ready to enjoy a delicious lunch!
Weekend joy for sure 🙂

What!—no lettuce? The weave is the best. Make a bigger one to wrap (raw) a lean piece of meat before cooking indoors or outside. Yum.
