Be A Good Sport
Jordyn Weiber demonstrated superb sportsmanship on Sunday when, in front of the whole world, she failed to qualify to compete in the All Around for gymnastics. It was especially difficult for Jordyn as she is the reigning World Champion.
But, her tears did not last long, publicly, at any rate. She quickly responded, with grace, to an interviewer where she said that she was disappointed in her own performance but was happy for her team mates and, though she would not realize her personal goal of going home with an individual Gold, she looked forward to helping Team USA win the Gold.
Because good sportsmanship makes for a super experience, it is an important concept to share with your children…..in all walks of life, not only in their sports’ endeavors. Always be glad when another person has a win of any kind, be it getting a new job or having a baby or getting engaged or something as small as finding something that has been lost. Rejoicing in good of any kind is the way to go!
Your Two Chums go on, rejoicing!
P.S. Jordyn’s wonderful attitude in the face of HUGE disappointment helped to take her and her team to the Gold. Yes, the American Women’s Olympic Gymnastic Team, the “Fabulous 5” as they’ve come to be known, got the Gold on Tuesday! Hoorah! As one of the TV sports commentators noted “One of the sweetest things in sports is redemption.” Your Chums would add that it is one of the sweetest things, not only in sports, but in life. And having the positive outlook and a grateful heart, as Jordyn Weiber did, is a lesson to us all.
