Another Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day we celebrate those women who gave us life.  Here in the United States that day is the second Sunday in May. This year is it is this Sunday, May 14th.  But today, May 10th is always Mother’s Day in Mexico no matter what day of the week it falls on.It just so happens that May 10th always feels like Mother’s Day to me as well.  While I am not Mexican, 40 years ago today, it was on May 10th, I became a mother.  My darling daughter, Sara, came into my life and though my labor had been very long (over 21 hours), and hard, I felt the sweetest satisfaction and a sense of joy I had never known until that moment.

So today I ask you, my chums, to indulge me as I celebrate my sweet Sara Joy.  She is smart, funny, creative, has a stunning sense of style and is kind, loving and loyal.  Being her mother has been my privilege and delight for 40 years….where did all those years go?!!!

And today we can all celebrate the delight every woman feels when she becomes a mother. I can’t let this day go without also thanking my dear chum, Jackie, who has been a second mother to all three of my girls.  How very blessed they are to have her in their lives.

Whether it’s by birth or by adoption, choosing to let a precious little person hold your heart in his or hers hands, forever changes you.  I know it changed and challenged me and I am a better person for having taken the call to be a mother.  Thank you for being the one who first gave me that incredible joy, Sara.  I love you more than any words can ever tell you 🙂  And I have loved, and continue to love being,
