And While we are on the Subject . . .
The French medals are, as one would imagine, unique to France! Each medalist will take home a small part of the Eiffel Tower!
The Paris 24 Olympic medals are perhaps the most French objects imaginable, including an actual hexagonal chunk of the Eiffel Tower in each:
– presented on Louis Vuitton trays
– designed by 240 year old Maison Chaumet, whose jewellery is all inspired by Empress Josephine Bonaparte, their first client
– manufactured at the French Mint, which also made the Paris 1924 medals
– each medal features the face of ‘Marianne’, the embodiment of the French republic
– each has a hexagonal piece in its centre, representing the shape of mainland France
– each hexagon is *made from an actual piece of the Eiffel Tower*, preserved during renovation work in the 1900s
– the ribbons are made in Saint-Étienne, and feature the Eiffel Tower’s patterns, with the Paralympic medal specifically in the original red colour of the Eiffel Tower
– the back of the Paralympic medals also feature a tactile ‘view’ looking up the Eiffel Tower, along with ‘Paris 2024’ in a Braille-style script, partially in honour of Parisian Louis Braille.
Again, the French have really done it!
We hope you are enjoying the actual sports. Some amazing firsts going on!
