…she was overheard saying at one of her garden parties a couple of days ago that she is delighted with her new great grand daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

Chatting at the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the season a couple of days ago, the monarch said she was delighted to have another little girl in the family.

The Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new baby at Kensington Palace before she was taken by her parents to Anmer Hall, their Norfolk home.

With tea, cakes and a beautiful garden to stroll in, garden parties are among the most relaxed and informal Royal events.  Above are Prince Charles with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward, and HRH The Queen, and Prince Philip, as they make their entrance into the garden at the back of Buckingham Palace.

Every summer, The Queen hosts at least three at Buckingham Palace, as well as one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Garden parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s, when Queen Victoria instituted what were known as ‘breakfasts’ (though they took place in the afternoon).

In the 1950s, the number of garden parties held at Buckingham Palace was increased from two to three a year.

They took the place of presentation parties attended by debutantes, but have evolved into a way of rewarding and recognising public service.  They are attended by people from all walks of life and enjoyed by all who are invited to be there!  It gives everyone a chance to dress to the nines and don their hats.

Obviously, this year, Prince William and Catherine were not at the garden party as they are enjoying a few private moments at Anmer Hall but certainly, they were there last year.

There is no doubt in our minds that the Queen has total respect for her son’s daughter-in-law and is thrilled to have her as part of the Royal Family!

Yes, abundance!  Brimming over with joy!
