….And Oscar Was Born
On the morning after May 16, 1929, the headline “Film Merit Trophies Awarded” was seen on the Los Angeles Times’ front page. The photograph above appeared and a few lines about the evening could be read. Now, watching “The Oscars” is an annual event for a lot of people, including your Two Chums.
Yes, the big night is almost upon us and yes, we thoroughly enjoy getting together with one other couple each year to imbibe the evening. We sit and nosh on wonderful culinary delights and watch, from the very beginning to the very end. We are serious about our watching and that is why we keep our group to a minimum.
Our favorite part, and I think I speak for all six of us, is the very beginning, when all of the celebrities arrive for the evening, draped in the latest creations. Certainly, they are creations….and, as can be expected, some we love, some not so much!
It has been fun to look back at some of the old movies and, if you are not acquainted with Turner Classic Movies or “TCM” as it is known, get acquainted with that channel. It shows all of the oldies but besties and it is fun to go through every once in a while and record ones that pique your fancy.
“All About Eve” seems to be at the very top of the popularity list and, we have to agree, it is a great flick. If you have not seen it, find it and watch it.
So on Sunday, tape the Oscar show. Then you can go back and go through it at your leisure.
Enjoy!
