A Word To The Wise
As we look around today it seems like so many people are on edge. People more than ever seem to be easily offended by others, even those whom they are friends with or those who are a part of their family.
Tensions can run high and sometimes in the heat of passion discussing a subject, offensive words can be spoken. Consequently, relationships suffer and we can have the tendency to pull away from those with whom we have been close or hoped to become close to. We came across this quote that we felt was a word of wisdom that all of us can benefit from.
We need each other. Not just those who affirm and agree with our positions and points of view, but also those who see things differently, those who have a different perspective than ours. Listening to those who are not instep with our thinking allows us to evaluate our own beliefs and ask ourselves why we believe what we believe. Maybe we will take some steps to one way or the other and change slightly, or even greatly, our own positions as we look at things from someone else’s perspective. Or maybe thinking deeply about why we believe what we believe and hold dear, we will strengthen our positions and be more convinced than ever why we hold those positions. But either way, we can all have patience with one another and show kindness. We are all working things out in this life. That working out isn’t stagnant, it’s a process. While working through things, sometimes you are the one who needs to extend patience and kindness to another, and sometimes you will be the one who needs those things extended to you. As this quote points out, we should not be afraid or averse to getting or staying close, even when it isn’t comfortable. In the end, we just may be better for it.
