A Right Perspective
We all face challenges. No one who has ever walked on this earth has escaped them. Challenges aren’t a question, they are a certainty. We came across a wonderful reminder regarding those life challenges we wanted to share with our chums to start your week.
David arguably had one of the biggest challenges of all time. Humanly speaking he had no chance to defeat the giant Goliath in battle. Even the men of his own army didn’t think he could win against Goliath, but since none of them, who were strong grown men trained as soldiers wanted to face the giant, they let the young boy do the job.
David was too small to wear the armor any other soldier would have worn and any sword they might have given him to carry into battle with the giant was too heavy for him to hold. So he entered the arena of combat and faced his enemy with 5 smooth stones.
Goliath literally laughed at him and all of Israel, and taunted them for sending a child to face him. But David knew something Goliath didn’t know. He knew the source of his strength and his victory. In the Bible, in the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 17, we read what David announces to the giant he faced and all of the other Philistine’s with him:
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, I’ll strike you down and cut off your head…All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword nor by spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give all of you into our hands.”
Within moments David used a small stone and the slingshot he had wielded so many times as a shepherd in protecting his sheep, and Goliath, the giant, David’s greatest challenge, lay dead. Never focus on the problem or the challenge life is presenting you with, that is where defeat lies. Instead, focus on the one who is far greater than any challenge you will ever come against. Stay focused on the one who saves, call on His name, and like David, you too will know victory.
