A Night With Oscar
As we are getting up, Hollywood’s royalty is no doubt just heading to bed. Last night was the Academy Awards…the biggest celebration for Tinseltown and those who populate it….we celebrated right along with them!
Your Two Chums thoroughly enjoy a really great movie and we LOVE a great dress! There were several of them tonight at the 85th annual Academy Awards. The Red Carpet saw some lovely women in beautiful gowns.
It is hard to compete with the celebrity and glamour that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife Catherine, create where ever they go, but on this one night of the year there is “royalty” in Hollywood. And just like with the “real” royals, we love to see all the beautiful clothes that our Hollywood “princesses” wear. But our fascination is more than that…more than pretty dresses. We love to hear from those people who have acted out the stories that reflect, or sometimes even shape, our lives. Films and the stories they tell, can be powerful influences on us and we can feel that we almost know those actors who portray characters that we love and admire.
So when they give an interview on the Red Carpet before the show, or give an acceptance speech when they win that coveted Oscar, we want to hear their genuine feelings expressed. We love to hear what they have to say to their spouses or parents, or costars and peers. It makes them somehow so much more just like us. We want to hear them talk about the people in their lives who really matter to them, not the laundry list of obligatory names they are compelled to thank so as not to offend someone.
But it is in their anticipation of hearing their names called after the presenter opens the envelop and says, “And the Oscar goes to…”, or their raw emotions after they win and make their way on to the stage, that we get a glimpse of the vulnerable side of those people who make us laugh and make us cry. Their speeches tell us other stories. In the good speeches, we hear the real stories of the lives of men and women who we don’t actually know but who make their way into our heads and hearts and stir our emotions. And we feel closer to them somehow. And when we talk about the movies, what they mean to us…how we feel about the stories they tell, we feel maybe a little closer to each other too.
Congratulations to the winners, to those who went home with Oscar and even to those who didn’t. We wish them all love, joy and abundant living!
Chris Evans and his mother Lisa Evans
P.S. It turns out Chris Evans whom we referenced earlier in our video chat, played Captain America in the #1 box office hit 0f 2012, The Avengers. He obviously could have had a date at the Academy Awards if he had wanted, so it makes it even more special that he chose to take his mother who was so thrilled to be there.
