When The Duchess of Cambridge attends a state dinner in October, we will see a new piece of jewelry pinned on her left side. It is a very special piece of jewelry and one that was given to her by the Queen signifying the highest honor (or honour, in England) that can be given to a female member of the royal family, The Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.
The order is a small diamond-framed badge painted with a portrait of the queen, which is hung from a yellow ribbon and worn at state functions. It is always worn on the left hand side.
The giving of such orders was started 200 years ago by King George lV and is basically like getting a gold star from the monarch. It is a private honor and so we will not be hearing about it in the news but will see proof of it when Catherine attends the state dinner for China’s President Xi Jinping.
Obviously, contrary to what a lot of people want us to believe, the Queen has a great amount of respect for her grand daughter-in-law. We happen to believe that they have a very comfortable, loving, respectful relationship.
Abundance!
What a most informative post and what a lovely honour that The Queen has bestowed upon Catherine. I wouldn’t have ever thought that their relationship was ever anything less than loving and mutually respectful.
You are right about their relationship, Dick! Glad you enjoyed the post.
