A New Look For Apple Pie
Before we know it Thanksgiving will be here and pie baking will be in full swing. Other than the Thanksgiving classic pumpkin pie, apple pie runs a close second as many people’s favorite pie any time of year. Today we will share a new look for the ever popular two crust apple confection that just might be the star of you Thanksgiving dessert table next week.
While thumbing through an old, dare we say “vintage” Sunset magazine the other day, we came across this image of an unusually lovely apple pie with what appeared to have a ruffled top crust. On closer inspection (and reading the caption on the photo), it is quite simply made by layering circles of pie crust dough cut out with a small circle cookie cutter. Starting on the outer edge and working towards the center, keep adding the circles of dough overlapping them as you go until there is one circle to cover the very center of the pie. Easy peasy and beautiful to look at. Use your favorite apple pie recipe or try this apple pie recipe that is one of our favorites.
Of the the things that smell like comfort and home, we think apple pie is one at the top of the list. Why not make something delicious even more beautiful when it doesn’t take special equipment or skills to do it. And there might be little one in your life that would get a kick out of helping too. Time spent together preparing memorable family meals or lovely desserts to take to your host at your Thanksgiving gathering can only mean more love, more joy, and so much abundant living!
