A Lesson From The Psalms

An old chum posted this info about the 23rd Psalm on social media and we found it so interesting and enlightening that we simply had to share it with you 🙂

If you haven’t read it lately (or ever) the 23rd Psalm of the Old Testament of the Bible reads:

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. “

Now it is clear the writer of the Psalm is saying, among other things, that God, as our good shepherd, is present and leading and guiding us, His sheep, and will protect us in times of difficulty and danger from our enemies. But, “what has pouring oil on our heads got to do with any of that?” you may ask.

Our chum, Mary, gave us some very helpful, interesting and practical insight into answering that question. Here it is:

What a wonderful and illustrative explanation for why there is the anointing of oil! If you are dealing with difficult thoughts or are plagued with worries today, reach out and ask God to anoint you. As our chum says, “He has an endless supply!” Blessings on you each and every one 🙂
