A Labor Day Salute – Well Done
You may be familiar with the gentleman pictured here. He is Jon Bon Jovi of the famous rock band known simply as Bon Jovi. And you may be wondering what he has to do with our national celebration today of Labor Day. Labor Day quite simply is a day in which we honor the men and women of the American work force…in other words it is a day to celebrate the achievements of the American worker. Today we are acknowledging and celebrating this man for his contribution, but that contribution may not be the one you think.
Jon Bon Jovi is the founder of The Jon Bon Jovi Foundation which was started in 2006 with “the intent to support community efforts to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness”. On October 19, 2011, it opened the JBJ Soul Kitchen, a community restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey, where patrons pay whatever they can afford for their meals, either with money or by volunteering to work. Since that time two additional locations have been opened. One is in Toms River, NJ and the other is on the Newark, NJ campus of Rutgers University.
While this is certainly a worthy endeavor, you may still be scratching your head to figure out what exactly the JBJ Foundation, or the man himself, Jon Bon Jovi, has to do with Labor Day. The following is a post, or rather a repost, of a story from 2021 that someone unknown to us put on social media. We came across it a few days ago and felt it perfect for today:
On this Labor Day, the day for celebrating the achievement of the American worker, we want to acknowledge and honor the work of this man who, though a highly successful celebrity musician, humbled himself to wash dishes in a restaurant he founded to help people in need of a meal. He could have been out front to make his presence known, or easily paid someone else to wash dishes while he did other “important” things, but instead, he quietly went about the work of washing the dishes of the people he started this restaurant to help in the first place.
So on this Labor Day we celebrate his achievement as a worker and as a caring human being and we say Well Done Jon Bon Jovi…VERY WELL DONE!!! Your labor is recognized and your humble caring spirit is indeed celebrated.
