A Holy Day – A Good Word
In the Judeo-Christian calendar today is a holy day. For Jews this evening marks the beginning of Passover, one of the holiest of celebrations on the Jewish calendar, a time for remembering God’s mercy. As captive slaves in Egypt, the Jews were instructed by God to sacrifice a spotless lamb and mark their doorposts with the blood of the lamb, so that when the Angel of death came to bring judgement to Pharaoh and the Egyptians by killing their first born sons, the Angel would see the blood covering the door post and “pass over” that household sparing the children of Israel.
For Christians, it is Good Friday, the day we remember the cruxifixction of Jesus Christ, also known as “The Lamb of God”. He gave His life as a blood offering to save those who would mark their lives with belief and therefore be forgiven and “passed over” from death to life.
The correlation between these two events is unmistakeable. God sent His message of love and forgiveness and salvation for all, but how often in our busy lives and hurried culture do we rush right past those messages and miss a divine encounter, miss hearing God speak to us.
We came across this message in an Instagram post made by @aussiedave, an Australian pastor who studies the ancient Hebrew scriptures, and uses his Instagram account to encourage and uplift others. This excerpt from a post he made seemed especially appropriate for today.
We would take it even a step further and say not only does He still speak, He still cares and He loves you!
